"The King" is not just a moniker for Jerry Lawler. He has been the King of Memphis for well over 30 years (let's just forget about that Rock 'n' Roll guy). He is far from just a colour commentator as seen on Monday Night Raw every week. He co-booked and co-promoted the Memphis territory alongside Jerry Jarrett for many years, while at the same time being its top star.

In It's Good to Be the King... Sometimes, Lawler tells his story about how he went from being a kid whose artwork got showed on the Memphis Wrestling television show to eventually becoming the King. Lawler also details what it's like to run a territory and how he and Jarrett were able to team-up and run a successful territory. Lawler is very candid about his personal life. Although he has never so much as smoked a cigarette in his life, he does have one major vice, and he explains how this has gotten him into trouble in the past.

Jerry Lawler has many great stories in his autobiography, such as working with Andy Kaufman, filming Man on the Moon with Jim Carrey, running for mayor, his WWF feud with Bret Hart, and of course, lots of ring rats! Those alone make this book one to pick-up for any serious wrestling fan, especially those who have followed Lawler's career. The book does focus on his non-WWE career, which may sound like a negative, but Memphis is the more relevant part of his career. There is one point where the book arguably takes a dip, where he discusses his break-up with Stacy "The Kat" Carter. The book was not written long after the divorce (and subsequent return to WWE), so at the time it was very much fresh on his mind. He really pours his heart out here, which is unfortunately not what some wrestling fans want to read about.
