The Hardcore Diaries By Mick Foley Published by WWE Books Released on March 6, 2007 384 Pages (Hardcover) Available in Hardcover, Paperback & Kindle |
The Hardcore Diaries is a look inside the WWE machine. Mick Foley presents his original concept and explains why he feels it would work, then takes the reader through all of the steps from start-to-finish. Needless to say, the finished product only remotely resembles Foley's original idea. The book is written as if it were a diary, hence the title. Foley also writes about his falling out with WWE, "flirt" with TNA and subsequent return, along with his feud with Edge, the launch of the ECW brand and feud with Ric Flair.
The thing that seperates The Hardcore Diaries from other wrestling books is that the vast majority of wrestling autobiographies try to cover a wrestler's entire life. They often go from childhood to teenage years to wrestling training to their debut and into their career. Because this is Mick Foley's third memoir, that isn't necessary. Most of the book takes place from April to October 2006. There are some "flashbacks" and such as well. Foley ruffled a few feathers in WWE with this book and after reading it, you may not be surprised why he ended up leaving in 2008.
The Hardcore Diaries is an interesting change of pace from most wrestling books - the only other one like it may be Jerry Jarrett's book. It's not as good as Have a Nice Day! or Foley is Good, so if you haven't read those, you will want to read those before you get into this one. Some feel it is bogged down by Foley's stories of being charitable that many wrestling fans might not want to read about, but if you enjoy Foley's writing, you should pick up The Hardcore Diaries.
