The Hardy Boyz: Exist 2 Inspire By Matt & Jeff Hardy with Michael Krugman Published by HarperCollins Released on March 18, 2003 288 Pages (Hardcover) Available in Hardcover |
Matt and Jeff Hardy are best known for their TLC (Tables, Ladders & Chairs) matches with Edge & Christian and the Dudley Boyz in the early 2000s. The matches were semi-main evented two Wrestlemanias and are widely regarded as some of the best ladder matches there have been. The Hardy Boyz had a great run as a tag team, capturing the tag team titles six times (at the time of their autobiography). Since the autobiography, the Hardys have gone on to single careers, with Matt winning the ECW Championship and Jeff winning the WWE Championship - their ultimate goal.
The Hardy Boyz: Exist 2 Inspire is formatted differently from most wrestling autobiographies. Most autobiographies only have to deal with one person telling the story, but this book is narrated by both Hardys in what is basically interview format, except there are no questions asked. Matt and Jeff just tell the whole story themselves. The book has no chapters, instead is broken down into three parts with each topic having its own heading. Matt and Jeff discuss their upbringing, losing their mother, how they became interested in wrestling, wrestling in their backyard, working the indies, doing jobs for the WWF, the creation of OMEGA, finally signing with the WWF and their entire WWF/WWE career up until just after they broke up the tag team. Their WWE career is covered in-depth, almost broken down pay-per-view by pay-per-view.
The Hardys are both fairly honest in the book, especially because the book was put out by WWE. The format is a little questionable, because somehow it's hard to believe each brother taking turns in equal length telling the story. Despite that, it reads fairly quickly because of the way it is broken down. The book has been criticized for having been written so early in the Hardys' career, which is true. So much has happened since then such as Jeff's TNA run and the whole Edge-Lita debacle, along with what's happened in their WWE careers since. Hopefully we will see follow-up books from Matt and Jeff when their careers are winding down. With that said, The Hardy Boyz: Exist 2 Inspire is an enjoyable read that any fan of the Hardys should check out.
