It's True! It's True! By Kurt Angle with John Harper Published by HarperCollins Released on November 30, 2001 336 Pages (Hardcover) Available in Hardcover & Paperback |
When Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle joined the WWF's main roster in late 1999, he was rushed straight to the top. He won the WWF Championship inside of a year of his debut. He was even given the Future Legend Award by the Cauliflower Alley in 2000. After making such a huge impact in such a short period of time, the WWF was quick to publish his autobiography in 2001. Since that time, Angle has won world championships in WWE five times as well as the TNA World Championship on two occasions. All of that in addition to his Olympic gold medal and two NCAA Division I World Championships, Angle is no stranger to gold.
It's True! It's True! is an inspiring tale. It tells the story of how his determination brought him to Olympic gold in amateur wrestling and how he was able to transition into a pro-wrestler seemingly with ease. There is a lot of triumph and tragedy, as he deals with family losses, including his father. It's interesting to go back and read this book, as the entire WWF section takes place in a little over a year period. Because of that, a good portion of the book goes into details about what was going on at the time. It's crazy to think of how much has happened since then, especially for someone like Kurt Angle. It's True! It's True! covers his father's passing and his relationship with him, his family life growing up, high school sports, his amateur wrestling career, making the Olympics and winning the gold medal, his post-Olympic career, his marriage, signing with the WWF, learning how to wrestle in Memphis, debuting with WWF, honing his heel character, his early WWF feuds and winning (and losing) the WWF Championship.
There is a major error in the paperback edition of the book. Due to the fact that the original hardcover release was put out before the WWE name change and the paperback was released afterwards, they seem to have done a sloppy find & replace job on "Federation" to "Entertainment," so that whenever the phrase "the Federation" comes up, it comes out as "the Entertainment." This detracts from the book at points. Since so much has happened since this book was published, it would be very interesting the see a sequel, perhaps once his career is over. As it is, the WWE portion of the book does come across as extremely outdated. As the story about Kurt's path to WWE, it is a great story and a recommended read.
