Ted DiBiase: The Million Dollar Man By Ted DiBiase with Tom Caiazzo Published by WWE Books Released on June 10, 2008 256 Pages (Paperback) Available in Paperback |
"The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase was one of the WWF's most despised heels of the 80s and early 90s. He was never (officially) WWF Champion, but he did hold the Million Dollar Belt for many years. He had a servant, Virgil, and he would pull fans out of the crowd, offer them money to perform a simple task like bouncing a ball 100 times and then kick the ball right before the fan got to 100. He would later go on to form Money Inc. with IRS as well as do some managing in both the WWF and WCW, and was even the original "backer" of the nWo.
In DiBiase's autobiography, he writes about his childhood, his parents' wrestling careers, playing football in high school and college, starting out in the territories, his WWF career and character, moving to WCW, his vices and becoming a born-again Christian. There are some great stories about The Million Dollar Man character that any fan of DiBiase's must read. There are also some classic stories of travelling on the road with Andre the Giant.
This is actually DiBiase's second autobiography, as he had written one eleven years previous - long before Mick Foley ignited the wrestling autobiography boom. The original book deals more with religion, while this one is more about his career. However, both books cover both topics. There are some issues with the editing in this book. Several events that a wrestling fan with a decent memory could remember simply didn't happen as written. It's unclear if that's a result of DiBiase's memory or poor research on the part of his ghost writer. Nonetheless, that is a minor negative on what is otherwise a very worthwhile read. Everybody has a price... is the one below yours?
